About the Event

Speaker:  Stan Mesceda, Sr. Product Line Manager

Organization: Thales (Cloud Protection and Licensing)

Topic:  Crypto Agility, The Cure for your Quantum Fears

Abstract:  As the reality of quantum computing approaches, companies and other organizations need to stay one step ahead of the potential computational power that could render today’s encryption algorithms obsolete. What are the issues with quantum computing? What are the implications of quantum computing for current security solutions? Will hackers use the might of bot armies in higher end processor farms to crack encryption? Mine cryptocurrency under our noses? How can the industry get in front of this threat before it’s too late?

BIO:

Stan Mesceda is a Senior Product Line Manager at Thales for the High Speed Encryption (HSE) product family. With a recent focus on data-in-motion, Stan has engaged with technology partners and internal development teams to bring industry leading encryption products to market that meet commercial WAN and MAN requirements for networks up to 100Gbps and beyond.

An experienced security professional, Stan has held roles ranging from engineering and operations to program and product management.  With over 20 years in the cybersecurity field, Stan has worked with a variety of technologies including custom ASICs, secure smart cards and tokens, and a range of network encryption devices.  Several products have achieved the highest level of security certifications in their respective fields including FIPS, Common Criteria, and others.  As the threat environment has evolved Stan’s responsibilities have transitioned from implementing custom cryptographic designs to countering the quantum threat with commercially available crypto agile solutions.

Over the course of his career Stan has presented and collaborated with colleagues on a wide range of topics including securing against the quantum threat, protecting critical infrastructure, software defined networking security, safeguarding against surveillance and other industry critical subjects.

Stan is a graduate of the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering and has a Master of Business Administration from the William E. Simon Graduate School (University of Rochester).
